One woman wrote in the Washington Post last week that Cosby drugged and raped her in 1985. Speaking of Cliff Huxtable, some of these alleged sexual assaults transpired around the time when Cosby was apart of “The Cosby Show”. Certainly, 15 women claiming that Cosby sexually assaulted them, does not do much to improve his “good image”. Cosby is known to be respectful and educated.
To some, this character and Cosby, in general, was/is this epitome of what a father is suppose to be. This may surprise some, since many equate Cosby with class, wholesomeness and he was Cliff Huxtable: a doctor, and a loving, funny, warm, but yet stern father and family man. In the past week or two, several women have said that Bill Cosby has sexually assaulted them. The Michael Brown case may have been an incendiary in Ferguson, much like the Rodney King case may have sparked the L.A. The police brutality that Ferguson dealt with reminded me of the same problems residents in South Central faced.

This Ferguson unrest kinds of reminds me of South Central Los Angeles in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Michael Brown incident may have been a tipping point. Some residents had friends that were killed by police officers. Nearly every Ferguson resident has been or knows someone that has been stopped, harassed or even shot, by police. In the back of the officer’s mind, Johanne Mehserle, it is possible that he perceived Grant to possess “superhuman strength”.įerguson is a community where many residents grow up dealing with police brutality. Grant was shot, while he laid faced down and handcuffed. This instance reminds me of the Oscar Grant shooting, that occurred 2009 in Oakland, Calif.
This stereotype and perception is ostensibly used in a way that justifies white police men shooting unarmed black men, in order to compensate for the strength disparities between blacks and non-blacks. Then, this testimony also gives credence to stereotypes of African Americans possessing superhuman strength. In it, Wilson said that when he was trying to restrain Brown, he felt like “a 5-year-old holding on to Hulk Hogan.” For one, even if Brown was 6-5, 290 pounds and Wilson is 6-4, 210 pounds, I doubt the strength disparity between the two was similar in any way to a pro wrestler fighting a little kid. One thing that was, very, disturbing was Darren Wilson’s testimony.
This situation has the nation talking about race and other issues related to it: stereotypes, perception, inequality and discrimination.
